For example, our client Louis Vuitton had an attempted break-in. We had installed 3M Ultra S800 with Dow 995 security caulk around the frame edges. The intruder used a crowbar, and surveillance video shows it. The film was punctured, but he never got inside.
The weak point of any security film is the edge, where the film meets the frame. If the film is only stuck to the glass, a hard hit can push the whole pane out.
For higher-risk spots, we bond the film to the glass and the frame so they work as one unit. We use Dow 995 structural silicone and 3M Impact Protection Adhesive Attachment Systems.
